Vagabond Heart

The light shone upon the horizon,

she remembers it well.

Not bright of the morning,

nor brilliance of the sun;

accented blue with a purple hue;

cool, comprised of silvery strands,

glistening just barely,

upon the cobbled streets

of an ancient brands.
Well-worn, treaded by thousands,

knights, maidens, peasants,

lovers, foes, the young and the old;

from the far gone past;

the present and the future unknown,

home to lost Kings and houses of God.

Quaint streets, formed of unearthly charm,

eerie lanes with a ghostly past,

welcomed the night with open arms.
She set out to discover the world,

but somewhere along the journey

broke apart, leaving pieces of herself.

Enraptured by the beauty

in words she could not recall,

forever ingrained, like a tattoo’s mark;

haunting her dreams,

leaving the doors ajar,

asking her to return,

to seek and reclaim her heart.

This poem is dedicated the beautiful Spanish town named Ávila. It was one of the many picturesque and historical towns I had the opportunity to travel to while I was living in Spain. This city was one the very few to have captured my heart.

Temple of Isis

DSC04338

There was magic in,

your ancient ruins.

Even as you stood,

in a brand new part.

An ageing  memory by day,

By evening,

a piece of art.

Shrine to the Goddess Isis.

By nightfall,

alight with mystic energy,

present within from the start.

Where Is My Smile?

Where has my smile gone
I don’t remember when I saw it last
Etched into a photo frame or
Replicated in the mirror
The corners of my lips turned upside
The slight dimples on my cheeks deepened
Cheekbones highlighted

Where has my smile gone
What was my crime
For it to have left me bereft of any joy
I have been mourning its loss
Searching the depths of my heart
The secret corners of my mind
I haven’t found it yet

Where has my smile gone
Am I not worthy of it’s presence
Happiness not a part of my stars
I miss the crackle of my laughter
Followed by it’s pleasant visage
I long for a morsel of happiness
That I’ve been deprived of so far

Where has my smile gone
Oh please tell me
Where has my smile gone
I know not where it hides
If you see it in passing
Please return it
So that this forlorn life I may enjoy

Light

The light shone upon the horizon
She remembers it well
Not bright of the morning
Nor brilliance of the sun
Accented blue with a purple hue
Cool, comprised of silvery strands
Glistening just barely
Upon the cobbled streets
Of ancient brands

Well-worn, treaded by thousands
Knights, maidens, peasants
Lovers, foes, the young and the old
From the far gone past
The present and the future unknown
Home to lost Kings and houses of God
Quaint streets, formed of unearthly charm
Eerie lanes with a ghostly past
Welcomed the night with open arms

She set out to discover the world
But somewhere along the journey
Broke apart, leaving pieces of herself
Enraptured by the beauty
In words she could not recall
Forever etched, like a tattoo mark
Haunting her dreams
Leaving the doors ajar
Asking her to return
To seek and reclaim her heart.

Written as a tribute to the beauty of beautiful Spanish town named Avila. Word’s don’t do much justice, but I’ve attempted nonetheless. I hope you enjoy reading it just as much I enjoyed writing it. Feedback is always welcome!
